Day 2: Setting up logs

Before class:

Goal

Today we will learn how to use CLAS together as a class. This class period will be spent in a computer lab, unless all students have laptops with access to the internet that can be brought to class on this day. You will set up your account and learn how to upload, post, comment on, and edit content, which will be a necessary skill for the completion of the Attentive Repetition and Log assignments in this course.

Activities

  • Introduction to CLAS as a platform: how to upload, post, comment on, and edit content (~35 minutes)
  • Class discussion about the why and how of universal design, as introduced in the pre-class required and recommended materials (~25 minutes)
  • First post: Hello World! (~10 minutes)
  • Three good things (~10 minutes): We will finish the class period by doing a trial run of this activity. Each class period, beginning on Day 3, will start off with this activity.

After class:

Your Attentive Repetition practice starts now! Now that you have familiarized yourselves with CLAS, you will begin to take Attentive Repetition walks two to three times a week for the duration of the semester.

We made a “Hello world!” post in class today. It may take a little while to get in the swing of making Log posts and that is okay. Post in your Log after you take your first walk and before we meet for class on Day 3; this way we will be able to address any questions or issues that arise as a class for everyone’s benefit.
